
Dr Donald Rukare
The first Commonwealth Sport President from the Africa region, Rukare brings over three decades of experience across sport, law, diplomacy, and development. He has served as a World Aquatics Bureau Member and Vice President Africa Aquatics, as well as Vice President of Commonwealth Sport and President of Commonwealth Games Uganda.
Dr Rukare is also a member of the ANOCA and ANOC Gender Equality Diversity commissions as well as the IOC International Safe Sports Steering Committee and lectures in governance and strategic management on the IOC’s Executive Masters in Sports Management and Organisation programme (MEMOS). Formally elected to the role of President at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in November 2025, Rukare has pledged to place athletes at the heart of Commonwealth Sport and to advance the ‘Games Reset’, designed to enable a diverse range of nations to host the Games sustainably.
