Max Cobb

Max Cobb, Secretary General of the International Biathlon Union since October 2022, has been a leading figure in biathlon for over three decades. He was active in the creation of IBU’s first strategic plan, Target 26, and its successor, Target 2030, driving innovation to expand the sport’s global reach and fan engagement to record levels.
Before his current role at IBU, Cobb led US Biathlon, from 2006 serving as President & CEO during which U.S. athletes earned four World Championship medals. He played key officiating roles, including Competition Chief at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and IBU Technical Delegate at multiple World Cups, World Championships, and the 2014 Olympics. Before being elected IBU Vice President for Sport in 2016, he chaired the IBU Technical Committee starting in 2010 and chaired the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s National Governing Body Council (2016–2020).
Cobb’s biathlon career began in 1989 after competing in skiing and biathlon at Dartmouth College.
