We have created some opportunities for you to network and experience Russian history, tradition and cultures either before or after the World Sport & Business Summit.  If you are interested to join any of these programmes, you may make your selection below. 1. The Best of Ekaterinburg

A half day tour through the City of Ekaterinburg –

  • Old machinery on the Historical Square and the story behind the 1905 Revolution
  • Statues of Ekaterinburg’s founders and communist leaders
  • Church of Spilled Blood at the Romanov’s Death Site and the Chapel of St. Elizabeth
  • Afghanistan memorial at the Square of Red Army and the Villas of Urals ‘gold merchants’ of 19th Century
  • Monumental buildings in ‘Stalin’s neoclassicism’ style and the Romanov’s Museum
  • Views of Ekaterinburg and the City Pond from an embankment and the Hill of Ascension

Details:

  • Group gathers at 09:00 hrs. in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg Hotel.
  • You will be transported to Ekaterinburg city centre where the guide will lead you through central streets and the historical centre of the city, view original samples of the old machinery on the Historical Square.
  • View the statues of Ekaterinburg’s founders and communist leaders and listen to related local stories and legends.
  • On the 1905 Revolution Square, view all the history of the city and ancient pictures on displayed.
  • Visit the splendid Church of Spilled Blood at the Romanov’s Death Site and the Chapel of St. Elizabeth.
  • Visit the sorrowful Afghanistan memorial at the Square of Red Army and the gorgeous villas of Urals ‘gold merchants’ of 19thcentury.
  • Visit the monumental buildings in ‘Stalin’s neoclassicism’ style as well as the Romanov’s Museum.
  • Observe beautiful views of Ekaterinburg and the City Pond from an embankment and the Hill of Ascension.
  • At 12:00 hrs, head back to the Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg hotel.

2. Ekaterinburg – the City of the First Russian President Boris Yeltsin

A half day tour to President Boris Yeltsin’s sites of the city –

Details:

  • Group gathers at 09:00 hrs. in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg Hotel.
  • During this 3 hour tour, you will visit President Boris Yeltsin’s sites of the city:  The buildings where he used to live and work, the Ural Federal University where he studied in 1950s, the Squares where he met local people who supported his claim for freedom and democracy in 1990s.
  • The second part of the tour is a guided excursion of the Presidential Centre of Boris Yeltsin, a band new great modern museum where you will learn more about the newest Russian history.
  • At 12:00 hrs, head back to the Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg hotel.

3. Europe – Asia Borderline and the Romanov’s Monastery

Cross the borderline between Europe and Asia and visit the Romanov’s Monastery –

  • The Ural Mountains, the border between Europe and Asia

  • Cross the border between Europe and Asia at the Main Obelisk
  • Monastery of Romanovs on Ganina Yama pit
  • Memorial of Romanovs on Porosenkov Log

Details:

  • Group gathers at 09:00 hrs. in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg Hotel.
  • A short stop at the Memorial of Victims of GULAG on the way to the borderline and a few minutes drive to the Main Obelisk ‘Between Europe and Asia.  There you cross the borderline, receive a special certificate and toast with a glass of sparkling wine!
  • The Ural Mountains are regarded as the border between Europe and Asia.  To the west of the Urals lies European Russia, the cradle of the Russian culture; to the east lies the vast land of Siberia.
  • After a 30 minutes drive, a visit to the Monastery of Romanovs on Ganina Yama Pit.
  • The Czar’s family was executed in the basement of Ipatiev House on the night of July 16th-17th, 1918.  Just after the well-known midnight tragedy the corpses were transported out of the city and put in an open mine (15 metres deep) called Ganya’s Pit. Hand grenades were thrown down the mine shaft by their executioners.  Russian Orthodox Church insists on the version, that the bodies were taken out of the mine, dissected, and burnt into ashes.
  • There is a monastery, founded in 2000 after the visit of Patriarch Alexii II – the Head of Russian Orthodox Church.  The church in the Names of Saint Newly Martyrs and another six wooden churches have been built in honour of different Russian Saints on the place where the remains of the Romanovs were hidden for a while.  The churches were built with the local timber without the aid of any nails.
  • After the monastery tour, another 4 kilometres drive across the forest to visit the Memorial of Romanovs on Porosenkov Log – the place where the remains of the Romanovs were finally found in 1978 by two locals, Avdonin and Kochurov.
  • At 13:00 hrs, head back to the Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg Hotel.

4. Brothers in Arms Excursion

Military history of Ekaterinburg and the biggest private collection of Russian Arms –

  • Local military history – The Soviet Army Square, The Black Tulip Memorial and The Headquarters of the Ural Military District
  • New Museum of Arms of UMMC, the biggest private collection of arms, military vehicles, aircrafts, helicopters, and Soviet cars in Russia

  • Group gathers at 09:00 hrs. in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg Hotel.
  • Visit the most interesting sites of the local military history, the Soviet Army Square, the Black Tulip Memorial, and the Headquarters of the Ural Military District.
  • The Soviet Union was the superpower rival to the United States. The Cold War between the two nations led to military build-ups, the nuclear arms race, and the Space Race.
  • Soviet leaders since the late 1920s have emphasized military production over investment in the civilian economy.  The high priority given to military production has traditionally enabled military-industrial enterprises to commandeer the best managers, labour, and materials from civilian plants.  As a result, the Soviet Union has produced some of the world’s most advanced armaments.
  • Ekaterinburg, named as Sverdlovsk since 1924 until 1991, played the most important role in the Soviet military-industrial complex and was closed for foreigners until 1991.
  • Visit a small town of V.Pyshma for an excursion in the brand-new Museum of Arms of UMMC, the biggest exhibition of private collection of arms, military vehicles, aircrafts, helicopters, and soviet cars in Russia.

5. Master Class of Russian Dumplings Pelmeni

Discover the passions of the Russian people and enjoy the pleasures of local traditions and cuisines –

  • Dive into the kitchen of a country to learn about its culture and traditions and be accompanied to a tasty journey into Russian Culture through food
  • Not a typical tourist menu meal but a practical demonstration with descriptions of authentic Russian dishes

Details:

  • Group gathers at 11:00 hrs. or 17:00 hrs in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg Hotel.
  • The masterclass takes place in a local restaurant where you will learn how to prepare authentic Siberian Pelmeni and learn about the history of Russian cuisine.  Participants will be assisted by a highly qualified staff in a professional and elegant atmosphere.
  • Pelmeni is a first course based on stuffed pasta, similar to ravioli.  Dumplings of Russian cuisine that consist of a filling which can range from pork, lamb, or beef; wrapped in thin, unleavened dough and served with butter and/or sour cream.
  • The masterclass is recommended for those who want to try something unique linked to the enjoyment of excellent food, accompanied by a delightful experience.
  • Participants are provided with aprons, gloves and all the equipment.
  • After the masterclass meals will be served with starters, a famous Russian soup Borsch, taste the Pelmeni that you have prepared, and dessert.
  • Alcohol and soft drinks included.
  • Additionally, a complimentary set of goat cheese from local cheese dairy.

6. Russian Banya Bathhouse

Banya – A Russian style of sauna/steam bath –

  • One of the oldest Russian traditions and still is very popular in present days
  • It is considered that the Banya atmosphere brings people closer together and allows communication and interaction on a more common level, to have conversations about life and share their ideas or beliefs
  • Enjoy the steam bath in ‘Parnaya’ steam room
  • Take a break and relax in‘Predbannik’ room with aroma tea or special herbal tea

Details

  • Group gathers at 17:00 hrs in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg Hotel.
  • Once arrived at the cosy and typical Russian Banya, ‘Banschik’ – the host, will explain the whole classical ritual of the Banya Bathhouse.
  • Enjoy the steam bath in ‘Parnaya’ steam room while the Banschikperform a traditional Russian massage by brisk smacking with ‘Venik’ all over the body.
  • ‘Venik’, a bundle of twigs and leafy branches bound together from birch or oak trees and dipped into cold water
  • Take a break from the hot temperature and relax with aroma tea or special herbal tea in ‘Predbannik’ room.
  • Be treated with 30 minutes massage after steam bath.
  • After the massage, rest with herbal tea and swim in private swimming pool.
