The Gold Coast Marathon is an annual marathon race on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.  It is "Australia's premier road race" and is one of only two marathons in Australia to hold an IAAF Gold Label status.  The team from the GCM are offering a relaxed 5km run/walk to all SportAccord delegates.  The 5km will take you along the glorious beachfront and the Broadbeach parklands.  All fitness and ability levels are welcome.

Lead by Sam Hughes, Senior Active Parks Officer - development and implementation of the City’s Active and Healthy Lifestyle Program over the past ten years.  Vice President Active & Healthy Alliance Gold Coast Inc and passionate advocate for community-based sport, physical activity and wellbeing.  Sam’s running achievements are listed below but her main focus is really about community and the desire to bring people together through running and inspire them to become healthier and happier humans.

The popular Good Morning Muaythai morning sessions have been a regular instalment of the convention for the past 9 years.  It all started in Dubai in 2010 and since then every year, the muaythai morning workout has become a staple of the SportAccord morning activities, with many delegates returning annually to collect the souvenir t-shirt.

Lead by the energetic and charismatic, Stephan Fox, former muaythai world champion and GAISF Vice President, the 2019 session will be held poolside at the Star, Gold Coast.

For all enthusiasts who want to kick-start the day energised and ready to rumble, the classes will be designed for all ages and levels of fitness.  So, if you’re looking to challenge yourself while pushing your limits or simply want a fun morning workout filled with culture and tradition, then ‘Good Morning Gold Coast’ is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Stephen Ng – Head Boxing Coach

Stephen is a qualified personal trainer who has been working in the fitness industry for over 15 years and holds a certificate 4 in training and assessment. As a Level 1 Boxing Coach Stephen has specialized and built his business around the art of boxing.

Having established Matrix Boxing Gym in 2005, Stephen has created an environment where anyone can come to learn about boxing, feel the benefits of the fitness it creates and the accomplishment of learning the technical aspects as well. Stephen’s passion is in teaching correct technique to those wanting to use boxing for either personal use or to pass on the benefits of boxing for fitness to their clients.

Throughout his career in boxing which yielded an Australian title, Oceania Silver, Arafura Games Bronze, National Golden Gloves as an amateur and a Queensland title as a professional, Stephen has trained with Australia’s top boxing coaches. These techniques learnt over the years, along with Stephen’s quest to always learn new and improved training methods, keeps you the student always learning.

Stephen is consistently looking for ways to challenge himself and those around him, having competed in a Kickboxing Tournament in 2007 in Noumea, making his Professional MMA Debut in 2008 (knocking his opponent out cold!) and completing the gruelling Kokoda Challenge in 2009.

SportAccord 2019 - Active & Healthy Activations

You’re invited to celebrate the Gold Coast’s unique beach lifestyle during free morning activities brought to you by City of Gold Coast’s Active & Healthy program.  Get involved!  Dig your toes in the sand, breathe the fresh sea air and celebrate life on the Gold Coast.

DATES:                  Monday 5 May to Friday 9 May 2019

TIME:                    06:30 to 07:30 hrs.

VENUE:                 Kurrawa Terrace, Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach (*except Wednesday)

These activities are offered as part of City of Gold Coast’s Active & Healthy program.  The award-winning program has been getting thousands of residents up, out and active every week with free or low-cost activities conducted by qualified and friendly instructors.

All activities will take place at Broadbeach.  In 1934, the South Coast Bulletin newspaper announced Broadbeach as a new seaside township that boasted 70 surveyed allotments.  The foreshore was mined for its mineral sands that were exported overseas, but mining ceased in the mid-1950s and the sand dunes were rehabilitated with grass and trees.   Today, Broadbeach is a vibrant business and family-friendly entertainment precinct.                                                                                                       

Kurrawa Park - All Abilities Playground

The City has joined forces with Disability Services Queensland to create the Gold Coast's first 'All Abilities Playground' at Kurrawa Pratten Park, just south of Kurrawa Surf Club, Old Burleigh Road, Broadbeach.  The park has proved extremely popular, providing an innovative, unique and entertaining play space for kids of all ages.

Distance and directions from Gold Coast Convention Centre 600 metres.  Adjacent to the Kurrawa Surf Club.

Meet in the lobby of the HQ hotel, The Star daily at 06:00 hrs to be escorted by Volunteers who will walk participants to the activity location each day.  Or make your own way there in time to kick-off at 06:30 hrs. 

Wednesday, for those not staying at the Star please meet in the hotel lobby and you will be escorted by a Volunteer to the Good Morning Muaythai session.   In-house guests please make your way to poolside by 06:00 hrs.
